North Dakota Telehealth Note

North Dakota permits telemedicine prescribing when a proper provider-patient relationship has been established. The state has actively promoted telehealth as a solution for its rural and frontier communities.

WARNING: RISK OF THYROID C-CELL TUMORS

  • In rodents, semaglutide and tirzepatide cause dose-dependent and treatment-duration-dependent thyroid C-cell tumors at clinically relevant exposures. It is unknown whether these medications cause thyroid C-cell tumors, including medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), in humans.
  • Human relevance of the rodent findings has not been determined. There have been no controlled studies establishing a causal relationship between GLP-1 receptor agonists and MTC in humans.

Contraindications

These medications are contraindicated in patients with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or in patients with Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2).

Patient Counseling

Counsel patients regarding the potential risk of MTC and inform them of the symptoms of thyroid tumors — including a mass or lump in the neck, difficulty swallowing (dysphagia), shortness of breath (dyspnea), and persistent hoarseness. Routine monitoring of serum calcitonin or thyroid ultrasound is of uncertain value for early detection of MTC in patients treated with these medications.

This boxed warning is the FDA's most stringent warning for prescription drugs. It applies to all GLP-1 receptor agonists including semaglutide and tirzepatide. Discuss any concerns with your Surfbound provider during the intake review.

What to Expect

How it
works.

Here is exactly what happens from the moment you begin your intake to the day your medication arrives.

01

Complete a simple online intake

Answer questions about your health history, goals, and current medications, all from your phone or computer. No waiting rooms, no scheduling hassle. Takes about five minutes.

02

A licensed clinician reviews your case

Every submission is reviewed by a licensed medical provider who evaluates your information carefully and determines whether treatment is clinically appropriate for you.

In most states, no webcam or live call is required. A small number of states require a brief phone or video visit before a prescription can be issued.

03

Prescription issued only if appropriate

If the clinician determines treatment is right for you, a prescription is written. If not, you receive a clear explanation. Treatment is never guaranteed.

04

Medication fulfilled by licensed pharmacy partners

Your prescription is sent to a licensed compounding pharmacy. Surfbound Health connects you with clinicians and pharmacy partners — we are not a pharmacy ourselves.

Provider Access & Process

Preparing for your North Dakota review

The clinical steps below belong to this page — the North Dakota coverage page lists cities and shipping instead, so the two families do not repeat the same long process article.

Before your review

Having the following ready helps your licensed provider review your information:

  • A current list of your medications and doses
  • Allergies and any prior reactions to medication
  • Your weight history and current height/weight
  • Relevant medical conditions and past surgeries
  • Recent lab results, if you have them on hand

Prescription review

A licensed provider credentialed in North Dakota reviews your intake and determines whether treatment is medically appropriate.

A prescription is not guaranteed. If treatment is not appropriate, you receive a clear explanation. If it is, a prescription may be sent to a licensed compounding pharmacy and medication ships discreetly.

Switching providers

Already taking a GLP-1? We can match your current dose when clinically appropriate. Sign up and use the doctor-notes field at the end of the form to list your current medication and dose, and whether you want to stay at that dose or discuss increasing it. Your clinician reviews the request and determines the prescription.

No. In most cases, you do not need an in-person visit. The provider review is completed online based on the health intake you submit. Surfbound Health operates on a cash-pay model and does not bill insurance directly. This eliminates prior authorization delays and coverage denials. You may be able to use HSA or FSA funds for treatment. If you have insurance that covers GLP-1 weight loss medications, an in-person provider may be the better path to access that coverage.

A licensed provider reviews your health history, current medications, BMI, allergies, and treatment goals. Most reviews are completed within 24 hours on business days. If treatment is medically appropriate, a prescription is sent to a licensed compounding pharmacy, and medication ships to your North Dakota address.
